HALLOWEEN

(1978)

The eerie glow of this otherwise unassuming jack-o' face is the first image we're ever given that introduces us to the world of Carpenter's holiday horror masterpiece. With that classic foreboding piano theme playing as the camera slowly zooms closer and closer, pulling us in along with it.

Perfection.

Continuing on with the same opening style, but featuring a different pumpkin this time around. A considerably cheerful even happier-looking face, as the camera zooms in splitting apart to reveal something more sinister lurking inside.

Combined with a new synth rendition of the iconic theme complemented by a creepy organ melody, it sets the tone for more of the night he came home...

HALLOWEEN II

(1981)

HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF

THE WITCH

(1983)

Enter the digital age!

Out with the old, in with the new. Now we're treated to an early 80's computerized jack-o'-lantern facsimile. Cool, no? Isn't technology great.

Anyway kids, tune in at 9 for the big giveaway by watching the Magic Pumpkin! And don't forget to wear your masks...

HALLOWEEN 4: THE RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS

(1988)

Gone is the traditional pumpkin opening intro and signature synth theme tune, in favor of a more subtle low-key approach. The tone is ominous and mysterious.

Still atmospheric and sets the right mood, but quite a bit less stylish.

HALLOWEEN 5: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS

(1989)

The pumpkin returns...

With a vengeance! Swift and brutal, through quick flashes this poor gourd is viciously slaughtered right before our eyes. Sliced, diced and unforgivingly mutilated, we bear witness to the birth of a new movie jack-o'-lantern.

HALLOWEEN: THE CURSE OF

MICHAEL MYERS

(1995)

No opening jack-o' here.

They saved it for the end on this. The closing shot of the film is perhaps the most wickedly evil pumpkin face yet!

HALLOWEEN H20:

20 YEARS LATER

(1998)

Again, no opening pumpkin style credits here.

No jack-o'-lanterns in this one, at all! This is the closest thing we get...

HALLOWEEN

(2007)

A new decade, and a new look for the franchise.

The classic jack-o'-lantern opening title sequence is still MIA in the Rob Zombie era, but he makes up for it with these beauties.
